What about the Tang Dynasty art was distinctive and interesting? Tang painters represent a watershed in Chinese pictorial art. Tang painters were renowned for their work on paper and silk. The most celebrated painter of the Tang Dynasty period was Wu Daoxuan. Sadly none of his work survives today. The subject most associtated with the tang is landscape painting. There were two major styles, so-called Northen School and Southern School.
